These tiles are found in a sweet restaurant near the church of St. Michael with antique tiles throughout the building. Such a sweet surprise!

Tiles cover the entire floor of the St. Michael Church in Anacapri (or upper Capri), Italy.
The first thing you see entering the nave of the church is the marvelous hand painted ceramic tile floor. Every inch of it is covered with a grand scene showing the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The dramatic scene takes place in a lush setting surrounded by trees, plants and all types of animals. This wonderfully preserved floor dates from 1761 and was created by Leonardo Chiaiese, one of the best ceramic artists working in Naples in the 18th century.
Nowadays the church is a national monument, rightly called "a masterpiece of art" by the works of great artistic value in it, first of all the floor made with "riggiola", a particular type of ceramic tile, depicting the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Paradise, by the Neapolitan master Leonardo Chiaiese, maybe based on drawings of the sculptor Giuseppe Sanmartino.

The term Azulejo or Tile dates back to the time of Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. The term "azulejo is derived from the Arab word (al zulej) which means a smooth and polished stone. It wasn't until the 16th century that the process was perfected into the tile we know today.
